Gülay Hasdoğan (Chair) Prof. Dr., University Representative
She received her Bachelor of Industrial Design (1985) and MSc. in Building Science (1988) Degrees from Middle East Technical University (METU), and her PhD (1993) from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, London. She is a founding member of the Industrial Designers Society of Turkey (ETMK), and she served as the President between 1996-98, and 2006-2010, and Chairperson of the Department of Industrial Design (1998-2004) at METU. In 2008 and 2010, as an Executive Committee Member of Design Turkey Industrial Design Awards for which ETMK is a partner institution, she coordinated the development of the award scheme and the evaluation process. She is currently Head of the Department of Industrial Design at METU. She teaches graduate research methods and second-year industrial design studio. She has publications on the institutionalisation of industrial design, design education and user models in the design process. She is an Eisenhower fellow of Turkey in the multinational program 2000. She is head of the Industrial Designers Committee in the Chamber of Architects. She serves as the Community Liaison for Asia in the World Design Organisation.

Renk Dimli Oraklıbel (Vice Chair), Assistant Professor, University Representative
She studied industrial design at İstanbul Technical University and received her bachelor's degree in 2005. She then completed her M.Sc thesis in the Department of Industrial Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2008. She worked as a research assistant in the Department of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University (2010-2012), where she got her Ph.D. degree in 2015. She has been working at Bahçeşehir University, Department of Industrial Design since 2012. She teaches product semantics besides third year industrial design studio. Her principal areas of research interest are semiotics, media and visual studies, material culture, advertising and consumer culture.

Deniz Ekmekçioğlu, Assistant Professor, University Representative
After completing his undergraduate education at Anadolu University, Department of Industrial Design in 2007, he received his MA degree from İstanbul Technical University, Department of Industrial Product Design in 2012, and his PhD degree from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Industrial Product Design in 2017. He worked as a research assistant at FMV Işık University between 2009-2016, and as a lecturer at the same institution between 2016-2018. Since 2018, he has been working at Ondokuz Mayıs University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Industrial Design. He is also the Vice Dean of OMU, Faculty of Fine Arts. His areas of interest include user experience research, design education, and the relationship between design and innovation.

Engin Kapkın, Assoc. Prof. Dr., University Representative
He completed his undergraduate degree in Industrial Design in 2006 and received a Master of Science in Industrial Design from Anadolu University, Turkey in 2010. He earned another master’s in industrial design and a Ph.D. in Design from North Carolina State University, the USA as a Fulbright Scholar. Kapkın engaged in several research projects during his fellowship at the Research in Ergonomics and Design Laboratory (REDLab). He is a product designer, design researcher, and educator who worked at the T-Design office, and the Ford in Turkey; interned at IDEO, CA office, and DXlab design in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Industrial Design at Eskisehir Technical University, Turkey. Kapkın focuses on topics of industrial design, product design, design education, and design research, creativity, human-product interaction and experience design, and product form development processes.

Ahmet Can Özcan, Assistant Professor, University Representative
A. Can Özcan received his BA from METU Department of Industrial Design in 1988. Özcan completed his MA in 1991 and his PhD in 1996 at Dokuz Eylül University Institute of Social Sciences, and has been serving as the Head of the Department of Industrial Product Design at IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, where he took part in the establishment preparations, since 2004. Dr. Özcan, who has professional designs in many areas ranging from product design to graphic design, teaches undergraduate courses on project, method, and system applications as well as design history and theory at many universities in Turkey and abroad, and graduate courses on advanced product development, design management, creativity, and yacht design. Dr. Özcan, who has carried out design projects based on university-industry collaboration in many sectors ranging from food to packaging and air-conditioning systems, and furniture, has numerous scientific researches, presentations, and design awards published both domestically and internationally. Dr. Özcan, who has been actively involved in ETMK since its establishment, Özcan has been the director of Izmir University of Economics Design Research and Application Center EKOTAM since 2013.

Orhan Irmak, Dr., Industrial Designer from Practice
He graduated from the Middle East Technical University, Department of Industrial Design in 2000 as the top student of his cohort. During his undergraduate, he also attended the RMIT University, Australia for a semester as an exchange student. He earned his MFA degree from Bilkent University and his PhD degree from Istanbul Technical University. In 2004 Dr. Orhan Irmak founded Orhan Irmak Tasarim with his partner Gökhan Irmak. Since then, he has been the Design Director of the agency. Orhan Irmak Tasarim with its team of 20 people specifically focuses on branding and creative packaging design. To date, Orhan Irmak Tasarim has received nearly 100 awards in national and international design competitions including Red dot, Pentawards, WorldStar and Design Turkey. Dr. Orhan Irmak regularly attends panels and conferences as a guest speaker and acts as a jury member for design competitions.

Sultan Kaygın Sel, Dr., Industrial Designer from Practice
Sultan is a Deloitte Senior Manager having 20 years of hands on experience in design and users. She collaborated with multidisciplinary teams on the agile development of mobile applications, web applications, interfaces for devices and any necessary interaction for smart product groups. She worked on automotive projects, electric vehicle chargers, IoT projects of connected white goods, smart TVs and more. Provided services to customers globally, with a primary focus on Europe. She is experienced on omnichannel interaction between physical devices and their digital touch points for creating seamless experiences. She is an NNg certified UX Master having expertise in user experience design, user research, design thinking, strategy and management. Understanding the real need/expectation of the customer stands to be her main focus of work followed by building project plan and conducting the whole UX&UI design process. She acted as a jury member in reputable international design competitions, invited speaker in panels, project coordinator and jury member in TUBİTAK incentive projects. She has 60+ design awards and publications on related issues. She has PhD, MSc and BSc degrees in Industrial Design from Middle East Technical University.

Görkem Erdoğan, Employer Representative
He graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Industrial Product Design in 2007. He started his career as an Industrial Designer at Anadolu Isuzu's R&D Center in 2008 and worked as a designer in many commercial vehicle projects that received national and international awards, and managed Anadolu Isuzu's design department until 2021. He has been working as the Design Manager at Adel Kalemcilik since 2021. Throughout his career, he has specialized in design management, design processes, product and transportation vehicle design.

Aykut Aslan, Student Representative
He completed his high school education at TAC College between 2016-2020. Then, he was accepted to Gazi University Industrial Design Department in 2020. After one year of preparatory education, he continues his undergraduate education as a third year student in the Department of Industrial Design at the Faculty of Architecture. Throughout his education, he tried to improve himself in industrial design, product ergonomics and product-user interaction. He had his first internship experience in the automotive sector and wants to advance in this field.
